When the discussion of social media is mentioned, especially with small business owners, the question of purchasing advertising through social media always comes up. Social media advertising is a great way to boost sales, increase visibility, and grow your following. While this does seem like a way to fast track your success, there are things to consider before making the leap into the world of social media advertising.
1. So why do you want to purchase advertising?
Like any buying decision you need to conclude what would be the objective of your advertising. By taking a step back and thinking about what you actually want in terms of an advertising goal, you can get a better understanding of where this fits in your business’s strategic planning and what channels you should use for optimal success.
2. Who are you targeting?
Without knowing your target audience your advertising will not be nearly as effective as if you put in your time and research first. There are many tools out there to help you sort through your data, but this step is often overlooked and leads to consumers being alienated by getting pitched a product that does not meet their needs or wants.
3. Do you actually need it?
While advertising through social media is effective, you may not necessarily need it. There is a cost to advertising on social media and while it is much cheaper than traditional advertising, there is still a cost associated with it. If budget is an issue, there are free ways to grow your business such as referrals, conferences, and organic growth.
