Now that we have created a cohesive message to represent your personal brand, it is now time to focus on finding ways to stand out from the rest of the applicants. Most people simply just state their skills but this doesn’t mean a lot to a hiring manager. Anyone can say that they have a specific skill but what will help set you apart is demonstrating how you have those skills.

One way to show your experience is through a portfolio. This is a vital part of a creative’s outline but portfolios can be helpful in other industries as well. The idea is really to show some examples of how or where you used specific skills.

Another way to help demonstrate your skills is through specific accreditations. This is a popular method in the tech industry but this shouldn't be overlooked in other areas either. Taking an exam or course shows that you have the indicative to continue developing your skillset and that you are current in a specific area.

Don’t forget ways to help amplify your soft skills as well. Participating in hobbies can help establish traits that aren’t so tangible. Whether you are volunteering, are part of a club or a team, try to look at all areas of your life and see how they can help testify to skills that you have.

These are just a few examples of how you can stand out. Take the time to determine what tools will have the greatest impact on your industry and focus on those features. Remember that you always have to stay on top of your skills and messaging to ensure that you remain relevant.
